Wanted to hit Chelan again and possibly fish the derby but opted for Hayden to try to get into some numbers of good fish. Started the day bright and early and was first at the launch and fishing at 5:00, quit at 1:00. Ran up to mid lake to start and marked a school of kokes immediately over deep water. Trolled in towards shore without touching anything. Once inside of O'Rourke Bay the kokes were going crazy hitting the surface. First time I'd seen this and made me wish I had a jig and casting rod because I didn't touch a single fish.
Continued to fish hard through the morning trying out everything in the box to no avail. Searched the west shore along a drift line. There is lots of debris and plankton in the southern part of the lake right now. Figured this had to bring in some fish. I did mark lots of schools out over the deep water on my meandering troll, but no fish. If I didn't catch anything my plan was to hit the spots that produced for me last time at about 10:00.
Did not catch anything so at 10:00 put the old standbys on and went at it fishing the points on the east shore that produced before. Had one fish right off the bat and lost it. I was putting my second rod down when I noticed the other one dancing away. It was bent pretty good so figured it was on the rigger and went to pop the clip... my mistake, the fish had already popped the clip! Probably loosened the hook right up with that jerk. I was pretty beat up but went about another half hour and then had a double on the next point down. Real happy at this and some of the hardest fighting kokes I've caught to boot. Trolled back to where I hooked up before and got one more at about 11 and then it shut off. Tons of boats all with different trolling ideas.
Saw other boats hooking up pretty close to shore, but decided to call it quits at noon-thirty after dealing with the traffic and not finding anything biting. Hit navigate on the iPilot and headed across the face of the bay with the lines down while cleaning fish. About middle of the bay I got one bonus fish (pictured) and was happy with that, looked back on the graph and sure enough I had passed over a school. I guess maybe guts make good chum! Good day on the water, not lots of fish but covered some new ground and all fish were around 14". Tight lines all!
