Hey fishing buddies!
My good friend Doc Chapman and I spent the last two mornings fishing at Lake
Erie, near Deception Pass. The lake has been stocked pretty heavily, and
traditionally this lake has been real good to us.
This year was no exception. We started fishing at about 6AM on Saturday,
and we both had our limits in a relatively short period of time. The fish
averaged between 11" and 12", with one at 12 1/2" (that one was MINE!!).
We returned this morning, and while we were nearly blown off the lake early
on, the wind died down mid-morning and we set in to do some serious still
fishing. Again we limited, Fluorescent Red PowerBait being the biggest hit.
We were floating the bait about 36" above the bottom.
Note that this lake is relatively shallow, and is pretty full of salad
(especially near the middle of the lake). Later in the year the weeds can
be a real pain. After fishing here you need to make sure your boat, trailer
and gear are clear of weeds to help stop the transplantation of this stuff.
Special thanks to the Oak Harbor Chapter of Puget Sound Anglers. They have
been at the lake opening day the last few years when I have been there,
directing traffic and helping get boats in and out quickly. Nice folks.
Have fun -
Del
