Went to check out nels johnson mainly to scope it out. There is an easy path to both lakes but only gives you access to a small amount of shoreline, we did some brush trampling and followed some game trails fishing both lakes with a large variety of lures and some bait attempts. I reccomend fishing these lakes from a float tube or liteweight boat you can carry in since it is very shallow from the shoreline out to about 40 feet where it drops off to slightly deeper water. no fish seen, and a local who walks his dog out there daily claimed he'd never seen a fish in either lake, not sure there is much of a fish population still there but we intend to fish it from a boat to find out! Hoping as it warms there will be some decent bass activity. Will update when we find some! good lakes if you want some water to yourself (well assuming it still has a fish populace).

There are bass in those lakes. My friend saw a nice sized bass the only time we fished it over by the logs on one of the lakes. Never did catch anything out of there though that day we went.

I have fished those to small lakes many times in a small kayak. I have caught a couple of small to medium size bass most every visit. I have been skunked a few times as well. Last time I was there, last summer, the water level in the first lake was down an amazing 20+ feet. There was no obvious reason for the water loss?? After a quick tour casting around the lake and getting zip, I paddled back towards shore. On the way I gave the lake one final cast, and bam, I hooked into one of my best bass of the summer. That was my biggest fish by far in 3 years of fishing those lakes. I fish there not so much because the fishing is great, as the setting is nice and close to home. Tight lines.
