I drove to Jerry's Landing on Eloika Lake for the first time in 25 years, paid $3 for parking, then trudged northwards on the ice to the first big point on the northeast shore. I drilled my first hole at 8:35 AM through 12" of solid ice, which had many old footprints and sled tracks. After 1/2 hour, I moved to deeper water (about 100 yards off of the shoreline) and promptly caught an 11-7/8" Largemouth Bass (see picture). I was using a 3/16-oz. Jigging Rap (Rapala) in about 12' of water; color was bright green with an orange belly. I caught two nice Yellow Perch (ranging in size from 8" to 9") before deciding to move to the northwest. There was a big group of 5-6 people who fished off of the northwestern shoreline all day; I don't know how they did.
After finding I was snagging weeds in progressively-shallower water as I moved northwest, I returned to the first point and caught 4 nice Perch again between 1:30-2:15 PM (see picture). The bait fisherman near me were not catching much. When my Rapala's fin got damaged, I switched to a gold-colored 1/8-oz. Acme Kastmaster slab-jig and caught another decent 8-1/2" Perch on it.
It was a nice day to be out on the ice. The morning's low clouds slowly burned away and the afternoon had bright sunshine with no clouds. There was a light breeze from the northeast. Two Bald Eagles were flying around the northeast shoreline, and there were many Wild Turkeys "talking" to each other behind the houses near the point. I saw an average of 12 fisherman, all fishing north of Jerry's Landing.
I left at 3:15 PM and am looking forward to tasting those delicious fillets soon....

Yum! They are one of the best eaters esp this time of yr. The $3 for parking is well worth it being closer to the larger perch, not to mention the security knowing your vehicle is safe.

Well I drug my sorry corpse out on the ice around 10 this morning. Got on the ice just about as far north as you could saw the 5 ice sleds on the west side. Several folks out on the ice about mid lake. All I can say is should have brought my cleats!! I can't remember the last time I stood on such slick ice. Holy Gheez. Fished in 10 foot of water and it was slow had a couple of bites but nothing stuck. Left around 1 so I could take Grannie to dinner for her Anniversary tonite. Asked her what she wanted to have. Said the same as we had 36 years ago. We had a house full of folks and went and bought Taco Time. Oh Ya that isn't where she went tonite!!
