I fished launched at Sammamish about 0845. Fished with Elijah Loves Fishing. We headed up to the weather buoy. Made just a single pass around the buoy. There were 2 other boats fishing from what I saw. Water was calm as can be. A layer of fog was above us, but clearly visible while boating.
I started off with Needlefish behind a Sepps Flasher. I went with that for awhile, switched to other Needlefish colors, no luck there. I usually head North, a little towards the East side of the lake. At some point I put on a wedding ring, tipped with a very small bit of night crawler. Sans the flasher. (Thank you to whomever recently reported with that)
Had a hard take down, which of course I didn't really see. The downrigger on my side of the boat is a little out of my line of site, slightly behind me. (that makes a lot of sense, lol) Fish came out of the clip, on the way in this was an active fish. At least 3-4 good jumps in the water. Cutthroat, 16.5"
Fished maybe 3.5 hours. My partner said I had 2 more drive-byes, which of course I didn't see either, lol.
Then at some point before we were done, he was thinking my rod was behaving a little oddly. I didn't bother to check it. After we got ready to pull the boat out, I pulled in gear. Had a Kokanee, about 15" in tow on my line. Came off at the boat side, and seemed to find it's strength to swim away.
Enjoyed very much fishing with Elijah. Had some great conversations about local lakes, etc. And I have to say a "Thank you" Elijah for watching my rod so well, and letting me know when things were happening. (-:
Guess it's time to move that downrigger a little forward.

Just a thought. But, if memory serves correct, both your D-riggers clamp to the side of the boat? Take the one on the driver side (port) that is in the front of the boat, move it back, as close to you as possible and clamp in that position. Move the one at your back, forward for the partner riding shotgun for the day to use. Then, you can look at the sounder, and at your rod at a glance! Your boat lay out is identical on both sides. Except for the swivel front seat, and rod holder attached to it, might need to swap positions. If you feel boat balance, due to body seating position, and d-rigger position is an issue.

Your rod should be fished on the opposite side of the boat from where you are sitting, it makes viewing the rod much easier.

Yes, I've done that before. I just don't like the starboard rigger to be to forward in the boat, as it makes me a little uncomfortable when making turns. Probably just need to do it, and get used to it. But for the rigger to be moved far enough forward to be claimed by front seat dude, it would REALLY be moving forward.

Thanks G-man. I'll make necessary adjustments.
(Kind of embarrassing, lol.) I've only had the boat 7 years.??

An attentive fishin' partner can really make the difference some days! Thanks for the report.

The comment was based on the downriggers staggered locations, which was: One near the back of the boat on the starboard side (behind the drivers back), the other in the front of the boat (near the front seat) on the port side.

The suggestion was to reverse those positions (but that is based on the positions I last saw them). Placing the dr at your back, at your front. Switching the port side front to starboard front. Or the better location for making turns would be to leave the starboard where it is. Move the port side/front rigger back parallel to the starboard one. Passenger used the dr at your back..........but your saying that is to far for the passenger to claim it? I have two dr as far back on my boat as possible to avoid cables contacting the prop. But, for the passenger in the front of the boat, there is a rod holder in front for his or her rod that is clipped into the dr at the back of the boat. His or her rod is close to them, even though the dr is at the back. There rod is close to them. I crank up the ball while they reel in the fish. I grab net while steering the entire time. Just a thought, and clarification.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like fishing has slowed at Lake Sam.
