Got out on the lake today a little late in the day for me, but the sun was out and felt warmer than I had thought so I had to get a line wet. I took my boat out and fished the South end of the lake before the Sunken Forest as you come from the launch. I found little packs of Seagulls picking the surface as they normally do at this time of year. (There is a hatch that always happens about this time of year) I just followed the seagulls and I found a steady pick of trout for about 4 hours from 12 - 4 on Needlefish at about 15 ft.

It was a good day out on the water. The largest trout was about 15" today which is smaller than the usual large fish of the day, but these fish are beautiful. All but one went back to swim another day. I found that If I don't kill them, they'll be there again some day for me. I always use single barbless hooks and these fish don't disappoint.

Enjoy. There is supposed to be a blow coming in tonight with Arctic temps. Hopefully the fishing won't go bad on us.

I like what you said about releasing the fish to enjoy in the future. this lake is NOT STOCKED and so, it is a limited resource that we can only enjoy if we dont overfish it. (c'mon, who really likes smoked 12 inch trout anyway...)

That's exactly it Rhody. I appreciate your comment! Right now the lake is awesome no doubt... but that's because there isn't a lot of boating traffic (especially the inconsiderate wakeboarders on that lake (in the hundreds) but I have noticed just over the past few years that there is a lot more sudsy look to the lake which is a combination of the wakeboarders and skiiers using a soap based wax on their skis to shred the waves--- Lol! so.... the quality of the water is threatened due to the mega millionaires who have to have perfect landscaped fertilized lawns in the watershed area, POPULATION GROWTH and wealth around the lake contributing to poor water quality and of course even us fishermen who also leave a carbon footprint on the lake. It all adds up to a fishery that needs to be respected, acknowledged and preserved so that we can enjoy it now and for a long time coming! This lake is a gem! I will take a fish or two for dinner, but certainly no need for 5. I want the fish to live. The fact that these are all native fish coming through the locks... or just fish that reside in the lake that are native....makes it so much more special to preserve as well. Thanks So much.

The picture of the eagle looks like idyl wood park in the background. Did you work your way up north for the 4 hours you fished? Who on the forum hits the north end routinely? Ice gone up there a couple times with limited success.
