First a qualifier: I'm not much of a bass fisherman, so take all this info with a grain (or pound) of salt! That said...did some research on cold water smallmouth fishing and decided to hit Lake Goodwin during the wx break yesterday. Fished deep, fished points, drop offs, deep holes and shoals. Tubes, drop shots, crank baits, plastics in crawdads and worms. NADA...

We fished our gear slow to "dead" most the time, but smoked a diving crankbait through the water also. Worked from the Wenberg launch toward the North along the East shore. Gave it 3 hours, enjoyed a beautiful day, but didn't have a hit of any type.

Though smallmouth seem to be a little more receptive than largemouth when the water is cold, bass fishing can be tough for the most experienced of bass fishermen. I've been chasing those critters around for 35 years and I still find winter bass fishing more trouble and discomfort than its worth.

Yup, very uncomfortable in the cold, and as I've gotten older and older the arthritis gets worse, worser, and worster. But I'm trying it again this year, at least for this month, won't know about next month until it gets here, and the weather is warm enough. lol Altho I'm fat, the cold gets to me quicker each winter.
