Two friends and I were on the water just as the sun was coming up. A pretty stiff breeze blew off and on most of the morning and semi overcast skies kept the sun off us for the most part. Water was 67 degrees and really murky. We started throwing frogs in the slop at the south end and the bass were hitting from the get go. Landed 6 between us, nothing big but not dinks either. Then just before 7am, KABOOM! Looked like my frog exploded and I had my first 5+ lb fish of the season. (5lb 1oz actually).
That area cooled off so we started moving and found fish here and there. They seemed pretty spread out but we manage 25 fish by noon. Got a few on the senko but black spinner bait and the perch zara spook got the most attention.
When the wind died, it was roasting so we quit about 1pm.
My friend also caught a bull frog on his booya padcrasher. Before this year, that never happened but he caught 2
at Sasheen Lake last week and then 1 here at Eloika. All our fish (and frog) were released to fight another day.
