Took my old friend Tim out on the Adorah Jane on a day that was supposed to be partly sunny and 80 degrees, but stayed cloudy and a little muggy. We put in about 2:00 p.m. and the water was nice and calm with just a little small wave action and hardly any other boats on the lake except the Mercer Island Police and the Sheriff!

We set the downriggers up just East of the Southern side of the island and we started with a whole herring in a helmet on one pole and a wiggle hootchie with scent on the other. I haven't quite figured out how to determine the thermocline on my fishfinder so we started out between 40 - 45 feet. We fished about an hour with no hook ups so I switched to Brad's Mini Cut Plugs on both poles...just different colors. We fished those between 40 - 60 feet, again with no luck.

At that point we'd made 3 or 4 passes so we pulled the gear up and I let Tim take the helm and we shot over to the Cedar and anchored near the airfield. Tossed some nightcrawlers into about 30 feet of water and caught some large perch bouncing the worm back near the boat. We saw a lot of salmon jumping and some large ones that were in the bay there, but sadly would not be going up the river!

I wish I could say we caught a couple large cutthroat, but haven't had much luck this time of year... still learning the fishery and definitely need to be able to figure out where that thermocline is! However, we did have a great day out on the lake and even went over to the Seahawks headquarters and watched them scrimmage for a while! Go Seahawks!
