Got up early to fish Lake Geneva, getting out onto the water at 5:20am, about 40 minutes before sunrise. I was primarily hoping to find some Rainbows, but also figured I would try for bass too. I fished rooster tails and spoons of varying sizes and colors, as well as a kastmaster and a plug, all to no success for a few hours. I fished on the surface, down deeper, did some casting around weeds, fallen trees and docks, and moved around most of the eastern shore and south eastern central parts of lake.
Still nothing, so I headed up to the public dock and around through the shallow water at the north end. I finally hooked into a small Largemouth on the western side of the lake, just south of the shallow bay where the creek flows in at the north end. The bass hit a black rooster tail and I decided to switch over to a small silver spoon. Cast out toward the middle of the lake, jigged the spoon once or twice and immediately got a huge strike from the Largemouth in the picture. Fish was right about 16", and my guess would be 2 to 2.5lbs. Got a Yellow Perch and another Largemouth on the next two casts with the same spoon. Very slow morning right up until that brief explosion of action. Definitely can't complain, I was happy with the Largemouth.
