Went to black lake Sunday, and today during the hottest part of the day. Fished of the private dock by the store. Used a 7ft leader, with a second hook tied at 31/2 ft. Used the standard trout set up egg weight, swivel and leader. Used a small hook. With pink power eggs and the bottom hook and Berkeley gulp at first. Caught first 14inch trout in about 15 minutes, he swallowed the eggs. Caught another ten minutes later. Then switched to pink power eggs on both hooks, and the last 3 fish got aggressive. Somehow all three managed to swallow both hooks. IMO the secret with these trout is small leader, I never use more than a 4lb leader usually 2lb.

Went back out this afternoon, used orange eggs on the same set up and and 2 14"rs in 40 minutes. However the draw back of 4lb leader, hooked into something for for a few seconds while I frantically adjusested my drag, then snap it's gone, busted the line not even at the knot. I met a couple cool fisherpeople there, and there luck was sparse, 8-12lb leader they were all using. I shared my secret and hopefully they have better luck. I really don't think color or scent matters for these hatchery trout, as long as it looks like its just floating there in the middle of nowhere they will swallow it.
