I know Pipe Lake is private, or at least it's supposed to be, but that's another topic unto itself...LOL

If anybody who doesn't have access wants to join me sometime, just let me know and I'm sure we could schedule something. It's a beautiful little lake and the fish are definitely in there. I'm just still figuring out how to catch them...

We went on Saturday evening and got SKUNKED. Well not totally. My son caught a bluegill and some small baby bass while trolling. I hooked into something BIG…fought it for 3 to 4 minutes, and it popped off. Have no idea what it was, but it was taking my drag out like crazy. As soon as I tried to tighten the drag a bit, it popped off. As we got to the lake on Saturday, this guy and his dad were coming back in from bass fishing. He had a stringer full of big bass. There wasn’t a bass under 2 lbs probably, and some of them were probably 3 to 4 lbs. He must have had 10 of them on the stringer. He said he cruised around the lake along the banks throwing out plastic baits (lizards, frogs, worms). It was promising…but at the same time I was kind of frustrated. Does he really need to keep that many large bass? Makes me think that if people keep doing that, all the big ones will eventually be gone.

Last night (Sunday) I hit the boat dock around 7 to try and catch some catfish. A couple was bringing their boat back in. Asked them if they had luck and he put his cooler on the dock. 3 nice size rainbows in there. He said they usually catch something every time they come out. He said they still fish in 20-40 feet of water with a Carolina setup and about 4-6 feet of leader. He said they use yellow or white fake power eggs. He said 2 or 3 power eggs on a really small egg hook. Showed me a picture of a 6 pounder that his wife/girlfriend caught in Lucerne a few days ago. He said the good spot on Lucerne is on the Northeast corner, where it goes sharply down from gravel "beach" to the 35 foot depths. LOL…his female companion tried to tell me Lucerne gets down to 60 feet…ummmmm ok (Lucerne is 35 feet at the deepest part). I didn’t say anything. But anyways, he said a few days ago they hit their limit in 4 hours (10 trout). I know what he’s doing (or says he is doing)…let’s see if we can replicate it.

Oh, and here’s the kicker…he admitted to me that he doesn’t even live there!!! He said his grandma used to live there, and she passed away and he’s been working on her house getting it ready to sell, and he just fishes the lake…but he doesn’t live there!!!! Ugh, that’s frustrating. I’m sure there are tons of people who fish there that don’t live there.

So…he told me his hot spots, his set up, and his bait. Now we have something new to try.
