7/29/2013 8:11:00 PMOh! Did you try gesturing to anybody about the fishin' while on the water?

JoAnn and I went back to Baker in hopes of finding some success. We arrived Sunday and fished the afternoon, using our sea anchor to keep a controlled drift of 1.2-1.4mph in the afternoon winds. Saw fish but no takers. Used standard gear and for bait this time I had sand shrimp on two rods and scented prawns on two rods.
Water is up a foot I would guess, and temp is down from 70.4 to 68.7.
Morning came partly cloudy and low clouds, very pleasant. The crowds have really thinned out at Baker. We had lines in water by 5am and fished until noon. We did the circuit several times over. Marked fish everywhere, not huge amounts but enough so that I would look at them and wonder what the problem was? I personally saw two fish caught by the fleet, and heard of one boat getting a limit and another (a WL.com’er, sorry, don’t know your name) getting two and losing four bites. They mentioned 50 ft as the magic depth. I fished that depth, it wasn’t magic for me, LOL. We fished depths from 25-65 feet and did some meter mark chasing as well.
We did catch one pretty Dolly Varden.
Decided to come home rather than pound the water Tuesday. We’ll pound some other water. Very likely this will be our last Baker Lake trip for 2013. I do think the fishing will get better. Number 1, there will be more fish being put into the lake. Number 2, the crowds have thinned out significantly. We saw maybe 2-3 dozen boats. I’ll be curious to see further reports if anyone ventures that way.
