Haven't had time to go out in a few weeks until today. Curious as to how the fish responded to the hot weather.
I started off on the right side of the launch along the docks with lots of lily pads. I've never fished that area before. I've only fished the launch cove once or twice and that was along the lily pad field to the left of the launch. Didn't have much success back then.
Anyways, didn't have any success at this new area either, lol. I was testing out a new rod/reel that recently got repaired. Didn't catch anything on it, but the reel seems to be fixed. Started off with a topwater frog. Followed up with a plastic worm. I got machine-gunned by some perch and 4" SMB, that's all.
It's breezy on the lake. Feels good, but makes boat control a pain. I noticed a bunch of feathers on the water. I was like HMMMMM, then I get close to the dock and see the carnage.... Nature, u scary.
I wasn't feeling it in this area, so I boated across to the western side of the lake. Found I guess a weed bed in about 9-10' of water. Worked around it and over it. I got a strike on a crankbait as I was working the outside edge but that was it. I found a school of ~3" perch chasing a swimbait.
Went a bit north of this area and started working several docks that fall into deep water. Started off with a mid crankbait. Couple casts in and I get a strike as my lure was about 3' in front of the dock. Feels like an okay fish. I see it jump and see it's a SMB with my lure popping off. Looked to be about a ~13" or so. BOO. Continue working the area. I eventually convinced a little 10-11" SMB to bite a tube and stay hooked. I had a few chases from other small(10-13")SMB on my swimbait but they wouldn't bite.
I see some other guy working the docks ahead of me coming my way, so I boated across the lake to the east side now to a honey hole I found a few weeks ago. The honey hole was empty. I did land another SMB, maybe 7" on the tube, next to a dock in the area. Then caught a nice fat 10" perch on a spinnerbait. I dangled it for the pic but it shook off as I was taking aim.
I got to a shoreline that drops quickly into deeper water. I can see some rocks. I then spotted a ~13" SMB in the area. Started tossing this at it but couldn't buy a bite. Lost it in the wind.
I guess I have to start looking at different areas or change up. I tried fishing deeper (12-15') but maybe that isn't deep enough.
Started fishing at about 8:45AM and done by 1 or so. Did see lots of fry. Couldn't tell what they were though.
