Hit the water at 5:30 AM and had fairly calm conditions to start with. Wind was slowly increasing all morning until about 11:00 when I was chased off due to whitecaps. Ok fishing morning. Caught 11 smallmouth mostly in the 1 1/2 pound range with one 3 pounder. Caught most of these guys on a Yamamoto grub on a 1/4 oz head. 3 fish where on a crankbait. All were caught in 8-12 feet of water.

Love Riffe for its big smallmouth. Hate it for it's well-known winds.

mlgetbent,

Are you looking for spots at Riffe or fishing for smallies in general for the west side of the cascades? At Riffe the Kosmos flats area is always productive. I use jerkbait and swimbait over the grass (5-7' of water) at the transition between the grass and rocky drop offs (8'-15' of water) I switch to a grub and lipless crankbaits. As I move deeper down to 35', drop shot along with a jig and pig set up seems to work well.
