Arrived late Sunday, June 16th. Stayed at Rainbow Beach Resort, as has been our habit for many years. The facilities are great. We had good weather on Sunday and Monday and caught lots of fish but, by Tuesday, it started raining and by Thursday AM we'd had enough and came home.
We caught trout trolling a lake-trolling wet fly on the surface. These were mostly brookies in the 10-12 inch range. We caught only two rainbows using that method, while in previous years we have caught rainbows just about as fast as we could reel them. I was told by the ranger that brookies had been stocked once last fall and again in the spring but trout had been stocked many times.
We did catch a few of the smaller triploids by trolling a night-crawler-tipped wooly-booger with the downriggers set at about 20 feet down. For these we trolled in the deepest part of North Twin parallel to the beach off the docks.
The best fishing was for largemouth bass and we could each limit out on these fairly quickly by running into the lily pads with the electric motor and casting and jigging with a Texas-rigged rubber worm or grub.
Some people were catching rainbows off the dock by still fishing using everything from power bait to night crawlers.
We always have a good time fishing at Twin Lakes and will very likely go back next year.
