Had my first tough day on Clear, was bound to happen as the lake had been spoiling me. Fished from 6:30-1:30 and only got 4 to the boat out of 10 hooked. Had to try a bunch of different set ups to get the bites/hooks up we did. Sling blades with red/orange/brass spinner wedding rings baited with corn was the most productive set up. The DN dodger and red only wedding ring set up that I’ve been using got little love. Tried a bunch of different DN dodgers and lures but none really produced. Only have 2 different types of sling blades and 2 red/orange/brass weddings rings but they all both put fish in the boat. I’ll have more before I go back out. 4 of our lost fish were at the boat with net in the water when they decided to swim off…doh! Oh well. Tried a lot of different depths as well, 25’ in 40-50’ of water got them all though.
We did see 2 boats limit out in short order so the 3 ranking is more a representation of the fishing skill I brought to the lake then how the lake was actually fishing if you knew what you were doing. I’m not bashful and asked what their secrets were and got some good ideas of different set ups and speeds to fish when my go-to methods aren’t producing. Smaller presentations trolled fairly fast for kokanee was what they wanted yesterday, in my ignorance I offered neither as I searched all day for something to work consistently. So it wasn’t the most productive day fish wise for me but made up for it in education, always grateful when anglers are willing to share their knowledge! Tight lines all.

Hi JD39 - Sometimes I have found a naked Dick Nite spoon in 1/2 n1/2 or pink or red trolled naked @1.5 to 2 mph (no sent or corn etc to mess up the action) works great.....who wooda thought? I also tie the DN directly to the fluoro leader; no snaps or swivels. Just my two cents worth based on experience here in Eastern WA. Alan

Thanks downriggeral! I will try that too! I tried a small dn spoon, chartuse with green splatter, behind a dodger but had no takers. I don't think i was trolling fast enough to put the right action on the spoon though.
