Well, Muskyhunter, you should be proud of yourself. I did what you suggested. I went fishing for muskies. Never touched a smallmouth, but Lord I found some muskies. Went back to the east side of Snag Island where I had seen muskie in the past. Because the water was flat back there I started out with a large Spittin Image walking bait in Citric Shad. After several casts suddenly I saw a dark shadow come up behind it, its tail waiving above the surface. But it wouldn't take, so I gave the bait a couple hard jerks, and that was it. It looked like a toilet flushed on it. But the muskie went one way and my lure went straight in the air. I then sat down and thumped my chest a couple times to make certain my heart was still working. That was the only top water bite. And, quite frankly, that was enough. I'm too old for that kind of trauma. I then went to a 4 1/2 in swimbait I make myself in a Rainbow Trout pattern. Had two followers between 30 and 40 inches. On the second following I stopped the swimbait and let it fall, and he engulfed it. It only took about 30 seconds to find out normal fishing line doesn't work well for muskies. Anyway, that was it. Though none in the boat, it was fun. But I still prefer bass fishing, thank you.

If you go down to Dike 11, just make a right, go under the bridge and just continue straight. Snag Island will be on the right.
