I spent four wonderful days over on Blue Lake with my family. Fishing seemed pretty slow the first couple of days. I only managed to take a couple of trout off the dock at the property I was staying at. That could have been because of the relentless boat/skier traffic on the lake. The strong evening winds could have been a factor too. Sunday evening (7/6/03), after everybody had gone home and the winds calmed down, my cousin and I decided to do a little fishing after dinner.
We started trolling orange Powerbait right on the surface. Right away we started getting solid take downs but we were missing the hook ups. So, we decided to hold our poles in our hands instead of putting the poles in the pole holders. That decision made the difference for us. We started getting hook up after hook up. In just an hour and a half we landed five nice (10-12") bows. The fish would steal the Powerbait right off our treble hooks. We used two jars of PB in just two hours.
I also had the opportunity to weigh a ladies 7# rainbow with my digital scale. She had caught the fish as we were trolling by her boat. That was a monster of a trout. I just wished I had my camera handy.
