With the stretch of warm weather, the bass bite has to be on I would think. So I tried concentrating on bass only today....

As I'm driving past the north end of the lake, it doesn't look good. Lots and lots of ripples on surface = wind!!!!

Continue along my drive, I see nothing but wind the entire length of the lake.

PS, they are paving the launch/parking lot.

I tried fishing 5 mins at one of my spots, but it was impossible for me to control the boat and presentation. Gave that up right away. Looked around and see it appears to be the same as far as I can see. Look at the direction of the wind, I was hoping to find some cover on the opposite side of the lake. Success, it's a lot calmer on this stretch of bank.

Started off with a lipless lure. Nothing. Switch between a dropshot. Got a couple machine gun strikes. Eventually felt a decent thunk and saw my line swimming away. Fish on! 1st bass of the year. 13" @ 1lb even. Woot, lol. Saw a much smaller one chasing it as I was reeling it in.

Some guy in a Ranger boat pulls up nearby. I guess he was trying to hide from the wind too.... Anyways, saw him catch one right next to me as I was busy retying....

I continue along the bank. Had 1 ~14" SMB chase a jerkbait. Spotted 1 big SMB under a dock. Wind blew me too close to dock and spooked it.

Wind changed directions and I had to move too. Fished a shallow flat area with nothing.

Moved back to the east side of the lake to try and find cover. Caught a nice 10" perch on the dropshot. For a short period, the wind died down completely along this shoreline. I was able to see about 12' down easily. Discovered a sunken swimming platform thingy. Didn't see any fish in it. Was surrounded by fish in 15' of water. I saw a mix of perch and I'm thinking peamouths. I brought my trout rod and used a small jig and grub. 1st cast and another nice 10" perch. I drift a little bit and I spotted a ~14-15" LMB hugging the bottom ~10'. I tried casting at it a couple of times but wind started to pick up and lost view or spooked it.

As I was packing up. I decided to trolling a bit. 5-10 mins into it, I get a vicious strike. Knew it was going to be a nice one. As I'm reeling it in, I see it near the surface. Yep, big trout. 17-18" chunky cutty.

I decided to troll for another 30-45 mins, even though it was still windy. Got 1 more trout. About 16" chunky.

So overall, it should be a 3-star day. But since I wanted to target bass only, only 2. Water temps at ~61-62 degrees right now. Water still high. Was still damn windy when I left.
