So I haven't been fishing lately due to having to move my mother-in-law from Ephrata to East Wenatchee to a retirement home which we completed yesterday. It was very windy Friday with gusts over 50mph so knew I wasn't missing out on much fishing over here but was able to stay in Ephrata last night at the old house by myself.

Woke up at 5am to a beautiful calm dawn and packed my gear and headed out to Sun Lakes State park to give Park lake a try from shore since I didn't bring the Tin Cup with me.

Now I have fished this lake a lot from a boat but not much from shore but knew it well enough to figure out the best place to try and get a big bruiser brown cruising for a breakfast morsel! As I was getting to my spot saw a bunch of deer grazing near by and figured that was a good sign I was in the right area becaue no one else was around.

I put on a slip sinker with 24" leader and a #14 gami hook tipped with a gulp maggot and orange gulp power bait and casted to a spot that looked good. Now I only had about 2 hours before I knew my wife would be up and calling from Wenatchee wondering where I was so I was hoping for some fast action; I was rewarded with my rod tip twitching so set the hook and WOW!!! This fish starting peeling line and heading across the lake so knew I had a good one on but had to be careful as I use 4lb mainline and 2lb test leader when I am fishing for spring trout. After a good run I started easing it back to shore and felt some weight so was careful to keep it out of the sharp rocks on the shoal near where I was fishing was finally able to get it in the net! What a fish! 5lb 25" brown!! yea baby!

Caught a 13" trout a little later and called it a day at 8:30 so was pretty pleased and am looking forward to coming back over her next weekend for the derby and mother's day weekend. I will be staying over the week after and hitting Deep lake, Rufus woods, Billy clapp and other so hopefully will have some more success!
