I would like to dedicate this report to Mr. Bob Johansen. I have a tremendous amount of respect for you sir and for all that you have contributed to our sport over the years. Your knowledge, input and dedication is very much appreciated! In my commings and goings on this site over the years you have sent me several messages or comments and I have appreciated every one of them. You represent the sportsman we should all strive to be one day. This morning I was planning on taking a day off in the middle of my current vacation to recoupe a bit from the fishing week I've enjoyed. Then I saw the message bar flashing on my phone, I checked it and it was a link to my Goodwin report from yesterday. It was the following comment from you.... "You are sure making the rounds of different lakes. I did that every spring a few years ago. Good job - keep it up before Father Time catches up with ya."..... Thank you sir! I have been trying to hit it as hard as I can for the past 30 years and don't plan on stopping anytime soon (good Lord willing)! That comment made me decide to get my butt back out on the boat instead of taking the day off! I decided to head back up to Terrell as I felt I had some unfinished business there...
On my 3rd flip of the day I hooked and landed the 4.7lber in the pic!! The wind blew, the rain flew, but over the course of the next 6 hours I managed to catch 5 and lost 2 all over 3lbs! My best day so far this vacation! The predominate pattern for me was flipping the reeds. I alternated between a jig and a Z-Hog and they both produced evenly. The Z-Hog was for the heavier vegetation and the jig was used in the more open water reeds. Spinnerbaits and swimbaits did nothing but get wet.
So thanks again for the inspiration Bob! You are welcome on my boat any time! Tomorrow is wifey day so I won't make it out, but I still have until next Wednesday to continue the pound and hopefully today was a sign of things turning around?!!
