Well, it's Saturday again, time for my weekly fishing excursion... to... (you guessed it) Green Lake with my buddy, Pete! I arrived early, at about 6:45 AM, got gear together, Pete a few minutes later. Again, fished the northeast side of the lake. Air temp was 44 degrees upon arrival... lake level a bit high due to recent rains, but a very nice (albeit chilly) morning. Water temp was 54 degrees at the shoreline. I set up one rod with Power Eggs (Orange and chartreuse) and did some spin-casting with my other rod for the first hour. Pete set up with same Power Egg combo, and marshmallows and worms. We were fishing by 7:20. About 20 minutes in, Pete landed the first trout (HE ALWAYS does!!!). About fifteen minutes later, Pete got the second... at about 8:30 Pete landed the third and final fish of the morning (the last two on marshmallows and worms). What is going on here??!!! I fish mere feet from Pete, use the same set up, same bait, smile just as much as he does, and HE gets all the fish!!! Through the rest of the morning the lake was eerily calm... not a breeze, but still chilly. We had several bites... I had perhaps the biggest fish on that I have had on all year... nearly drug my pole into the lake... took out a lot of line before I got him under control and back close to shore where he simply spit out the hook. Had another large fish on, which jumped fully out of the water and threw the hook... this happened while I had made a trip to the restroom (my instincts tell me that Pete purposely lost the fish so he would have the largest of the day!!). Anyhow, the fish seemed to be biting very lightly... we had a dozen or more hits, but no more hook-ups. Pete left the lake at 1:30, then I caught one at 2:00. Saw at least a dozen other fishermen in the same area, saw only three other fish caught. I left the lake at 4:00. The four fish we caught, were 13 1/2", 14", 14", and Pete's biggest, 14 1/2".
I tease about Pete, but it is a real joy to have such a devoted friend as he is. We laugh, we joke, we talk, but at the root of it all is a shared love of the sport. Pete often says, "The best feeling in the world is when the rod tip bends over and you know you've got a fish on!"
Trying a new recipe for "Trout Chowder" this evening! PTL!

NIce photos. Always appreciate your adding the tape measure in there, to help put it in perspecitve.

When byte is light, the sharpest the hook the better. Pete probably had sharper ones... Change your whole setup with new hooks next time this happens... or have a hook sharpener.
