As the season on our local lake nears to a close, we decided we'd head out today despite a forecast of rain and wind.
Luckily the worst rain and wind waited til we had trailered the boat and was jumping into the truck.
We decided to wait until noon to capture the warmer part of the day - it was 42 degrees F. We all had 3-4 layers on and still found it chilly. The wind was stiff at some points and virtually calm at others. The rain was very light to none.
In the four hours we fished, the weather changed a ton. Water temperature was down to 55.2 degrees and despite all the rains of the last week, the lake level is still perhaps the lowest we've ever seen.
Trolling our favorite spot, P. hooked up right away on his favorite bass lure, catching and releasing two rainbow trout.
Then came a long dry spell. Just before our lunch break, K. boated a small rainbow. We tied to a dock for a wind block while we ate the homemade chili we reheated over the barbecue.
After heading back on the troll, P. foul-hooked another trout and this one got away. The skies started darkening and we could hear thunder far off. I had a bump, but no big hit or hook up. Just as we were heading to shore, P. hooked into the nicest fish of the day. He released him to catch another day.
I felt sorry for P. and K. for just as we were ending the troll, the lake became dead calm with light sprinkles and it was tough for me to keep my "skunk smell" from them with no wind.
