Went out on Sammamish this morning wife. She's been seeing all my pics of the "big" trouts and wanted to catch one too. I only have 1 rod with lead core. So I just tied one of my bass rods with a Rapala deep diving plug.
In 2 hours, I caught 2 fish on my needlefish. But the bite was slow. I was able to capitalize on both bites, going 2 for 2.
On the last hour, I switched out to a wedding ring and couldnt get a bite. I wasn't marking that many fish either. Saw a few here and there. Saw plenty of jumpers though.
Anyways, as we were packing up, the wife started reeling the plug and she gets a bite with fish on! She couldn't tell if the fish stayed on, until I saw it flash a couple of times in the water. Anyways, it was a nice cutt measuring 15.5". Not bad. Looks like I have to troll faster if I want to trigger a strike with the plug. But that will be on the high end of the speed/battery usage for my trolling motor.... So I'm not quite sure how to handle that yet.
Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'm getting close to being done for the season. Just getting too cold for my old bones. :(
