My Mother-in-law turned 70 last week and we were going to take her to dinner for her birthday but she asked me to take her fishing instead. She hasn't been fishing for about 20 years so I thought we would head to Clear Lake for some Crappie fishing. I fished Clear Lake a several weeks ago and the Crappie bite was on and they are good eating. We started out around 8:30 and headed to the South end with a pretty stiff wind blowing. I thought this was going to be a tough day teaching her to cast and fighting the wind at the same time. The wind stopped about 9:00a/m and stayed calm all day...
Used some small spinner baits and blade baits trying for some Crappie with no bites till 10:00 or so, then the Trout started hitting the blade baits pretty steady. Didn't matter that we were trying for Crappie cause Trout will do just as well. We caught around a dozen 12" Trout and a couple of really colorfull Bluegill. We released all but 6 Trout and called it a day around noon.
Had a blast fishing with her and seeing her smile and laugh while we were catching the Trout was a birthday present I know she really enjoyed. "earned a few points with the wife as well"
