To start off, I haven't been to this lake since I was about 8 year old, so I have very little knowledge of this lake and where the hot spots are. When we launched the our boat at 7:30 in the morning we could hear and see fish jumping all around us.....come to find out it was just the over abundant amount of carp jumping. We fished spots that people said were great for large mouth but only caught one extremely small bass. We fished around the island with all the homes on it and caught nothing, not even a strike. We used evey bass lure known to man but had no luck. My friend finally caught that very small bass while we were moving from one spot to another by trolling a crankbait. This lake looks like it would be a great bass spot and is actually supposed to be one of the best in washington but I probably wouldn't waste my time unless I was with someone who knows that lake in and out.

Silver USED to be the best in the state, back in the '80s and '90s until they put in the grass carp. They put in WAY too many carp. They ate all the grasses/milfoils, MOST of the pad types, and even lots of the grass in people's lawns - at the water's edge. The water color and quality is 'off' as the grasses are gone and so no filtration of the sediments from the water as it has no grass to flow thru, and it affects the fish as we all know. The bass are still there, but it has changed alot. There doesn't seem to be as many bass as the sediment filled water isn't good for the fish/fry and with the grasses gone the bass fry don't have a proper place to hide from the preditory adult/bigger fish. I hadn't fished the lake since the late '90s until 2 years ago in Sept. Did ok then, but not great.

Amen to what Amx said. Lord, Silver Lake used to be a bass fisherman's dream. I know the lake was getting choked with milfoil and because of its shallow depth was on its way to becoming a peat bog. Infact there are many areas I used to fish that are now exactly that. But the answer to the problem became overkill. Because of so many Eurasion Grass Carp, the lake was raped of all weeds which filter the water. I actaully saw grass carp in a feeding frenzy following a man mowing his lawn, with the clipping flying out onto the lake. Silver Lake was once a fairly clear lake. Now its waters are one step clearer than a sewer. Sad.

Yup. What they said. My second biggest WA bass came from there, and big bass were the rule. If you went away without at least a 5 pounder, you didn't know the lake. Last 2 trips pretty much all we caught were medium crappie and bullheads. It still seems to have some bass, but you don't hear much about the lake any more. Shame really. They should actively cut down the population of carp, perhaps with lawnmowers to attract them, and then nets to transfer or harvest them.
