What a beautiful fall day. It was mostly sunny, 8 mph winds average and about 60 degrees. I wish all days were this temperature. Water temperature down some 62.4-63.8. The lake level is so low, our tailpipe is completely submerged when launching. (Hope the transmission case stays dry.)

We fished 12-6pm today for anything that would bite, but probably targeted the rainbow trout and cutthroat knowing our favorite LMB are harder to come by this time of year. We started out plugging the windblown shoreline hoping the bass would be feeding there, though we stayed out in about 14-16' of water. No takers at all. Then we trolled across the lake to the lagoon. No takers. Next we tried in the lagoon. No luck except for hot soup heated on our onboard BBQ. We had takers for that.

Outside the lagoon, K. caught one small bass. First fish of the day...then he had a long dry spell. We decided to troll the area and depths that did well for us last week, and then the fun started. Trolling large and deep bass plugs, and spoon, we caught 14 more fish. All the larger fish were rainbows and the smaller were cutthroats. We all had hits or lost fish that we had played...probably three apiece.

P. thought he had caught the largest fish of the day with a 17 1/2 " fish, when I came up with an 18"er. Awhile later I boated a 20" fish. Today's fish was longer but at least half the girth of the big one last weekend. While I was taking the hooks out of his mouth while P. held the net, the fish went right out the bottom of the net and landed on P.'s good coat on the floor of the boat. He swears he's not going to wash it, but I doubt that. Geez, trout stink! The old net served us well, but gave up the ghost today.

The one I'm thinking about is the 4lb bass that got away today. I had on a 5" deep diving crankbait and I got him about 2 yards from the boat on the surface when he threw the lure which promptly sailed at P who successfully dodged it. Only K and I boated LMB today (2). With the wind and three of us trolling, we had plenty of fire drills, with each of us lifting rods over and under one another while someone else was bringing in lines and someone else playing a fish.

K. did pick up two more trout before we wrapped up. Final catch and release count - K. 3, P. 6, me 7. What am I doing here at a computer? We should still be on the lake.
