Got to the lake at ~7:40 and waited 25 minutes for the gate to be opened, the sign does say 8am, oh well, I've been to this lake enough to know better, just used the time to get ready. On the water by 8:20 and by buddy hooks a koke while lowering his line on the first drop, didn't even get to put the rod in the holder, pretty sweet! This was his first kokanee and a nice one. He was fishing a red/white wedding ring behind a pink splatter dodger with a pink maggot on the back hook and fire corn on the front. I started out fishing a pink/silver dodger with a pink hoochie baited the same, we were both about 25ft down. I switched to a 50/50 dodger and gold/white wedding ring and while lowering this offering a koke took it before it was even set up, another nice one to the boat.
Unfortunately that was the last of the koke we hooked. Trolled around a couple more hrs off and on while still fishing for perch and only had a few more light bites. Thought it was odd that 2 fish came while the set up was being lowered but none while they were actually set up and being trolled. If anyone has insights on what that's about I would like to understand what I was doing wrong while trolling, they were definately there.
The perch fishing was pretty good again on Angle. I caught one of the biggest perch I've ever caught, it was close to 12 inches and a fat dude. It's pictured next to the kokes, it was really fun to fight on a 5ft 1-4lb ultra light rod with 4lb test line, I was sure it was a good sized trout until I finally got it to the boat. It peeled out line, good fun. 3 perch were good sized, including the jumbo, the others were typical 7-9". Took 12 home total and threw back 30ish smaller ones. My bud also caught a couple sunfish/pumpkinseed, forgot how pretty these fish were, they were all released unharmed. We went all day without sculpin which was really nice!
All and all a great day on the lake, would give it a 5 but those darn kokanee are driving me mad! Love to fish for them but do not have them dialed in (like Toni!).
