I wasn't shocked that I didn't catch a fish out of Kapowsin Lake. I have never caught a bass out of this lake, the only thing I have been successful with is two trout and one crappie but that was after fishing this lake for over 5 yrs. Kapowsin looks like it would be great for just about everything in the way of pan fish but I think there are to many great hiding spots for the fish and no way of figuring out where they are hiding from day to day. I have used every lure known to man and still have had no luck! Beautiful lake though, I've seen deer swimming across it and watched all kinds of birds of prey snag fish out of the lake which is always cool to see.

I've said it many times, and I'll say it again. When it comes to bass fishing, Kapowsin Lake can be one of the most frustrating lakes I've ever fished. Even during the hey days of bass fishing back in the 60's and 70's and before when even the smallest of lakes were bass factories, Kapowsin was still a hard lake to figure out. But with no lake side homes, and all the stumps and snags to keep away recreational boaters, it is still one of the most peaceful and beautiful lakes to spend a day on.

Don't know if I can be of any help, I fish for trout and Lake Kapowsin is my all time favorite. Have caught literally hundreds of Rainbow and Cutthroat there flyfishing. I used to tie on poppers and routinely catch dozens of LMB, from 1lb to 3lb... have seen LMB in the lake that run upwards of 8#... saw the carcass of one found dead that WDFW said would have been over 10#. Haven't been to Kapowsin for about 20 years (almost died there). I could always find LMB in the lily pads at the south end of lake where creek from Ohop Lake enters, as well as the lily pads on the backside of the island (and the narrow passage at the south end of the island, back to the main body of the lake). Along the west side of the island, and again, at the north end of the lake, back under the logs that form the old dam at Kapowsin Creek. In the Spring I used to pole my boat back among those logs fishing for spawning Cutthroat and would routinely see huge LMB in openings among the floating logs. Like I said, I could always catch them on poppers, so I imagine that top water stuff should work well. Good luck! PTL! P.S. Used to catch dozens of huge Crappie in Summer and Fall, trolling dark Carey Specials, out in front of boat launch, north under the power lines, and along that shoreline.

Bass can be caught on Kapowsin, but there are alot of dinks. But that's not to say Kapowsin doesn't have some hawgs. Some 20 plus years ago there was an article in the Tacoma Tribune that the game department submitted, that told of a bass that was brought in for weighing that would have broke the state record. But, unfortunately, the angler had it in his frost free freezer for over a week before bringing it in. They figured that took at least 6 ozs or more off its weight, putting it below the still standing state record.

Thank you for all the info! I will try the south end of the lake.

Success! South end was where they were hiding, caught two on a silver crank bait with a slow retrieve. They didn't seem to be interested in top water lures at all. Saw hundreds of baby bass swimming around on the south end as well. Thanks for the tip...........I also caught a very large rainbow on the same crank bait.
