Beautiful day out on the water. Bright blue skies. This worries me because I usually do poorly out on the water in these conditions.

Got on the water at 8 and I boated to the northern end of the lake where I knew the shore still had some shade.

Start off with a soft swimbait. A few casts in and I get my first bite. Just a little 8" LMB. A couple more casts and zzziiipppp goes my drag. Uh oh, what do I have here. I feel the fish rising for a jump. Splash it goes. Couldnt get a great look at it, but for sure it was a bass profile. It's pulling downwards ripping more drag. I eventually get it up and into the net. 18" LMB @ 2lb 14oz. Another long and skinny fish.

I keep working the area with no more big fish, but I see schools of little fish. They kept chasing my lures. Looked to be a big school of small peamouths or squawfish about 5-8". Also see a big school of perch right next to them about 6-9". Saw a couple that were in the 10"+ range. In the mix, I also saw small LMB about 5-8" and 1 about 10" or so. In that mix, I also saw a school of something I couldn't quite tell for sure. At first, I thought they were little 5" LMB, but they looked different. Profile wasn't quite right and I couldnt get a good look at the sides.
So out came the trout rod, lol. For the next 2 hours, I was having a blast catching all sorts of small fish. Mainly perch, a few small LMB and surprise, bluegill. That's the fish I couldnt tell at first. My very first bluegill.

Eventually, I decided to work down the bank and see if I can find any more large bass. Found a couple more in the 10" range, but that's it.

I boated to a different spot on the lake found more perch. Since I was lacking in bass, out came the trout rod again, lol. Caught a small squawfish in the mix. I somehow hooked a perch on the outside of it's head. The hook pierced it's brain and was dead dead dead. Poor fishy.

So not a bad day out on the water.

Congrats on your first blugill! Keep at the bass, the entire Lake Washington system is a bit late this year. The fish will eventually plump up to a healthy size before winter sets in.

How long of a swimbait were you using. I've been fishing 4 1/2 inchers in several different colors. But as good as they look going through the water, have had little success. Being the first year I've given them a try, and all the great revues they've been given I had high hopes they would do well.
