i wanted to catch some of the huge carp i see all the time at green lake. i got to the lake just before daylight at 5am. a few hours later i got bored cause i hadn't had a bite. so i started fishing for rock bass with my spinning reel while my baitcaster sat against my folding chair waitin for a carp. i have a 2 rod license. at about 11:30 while i was playin with the rock bass i hear my folding chair sliding across the pavement behind me, so i turn around and saw my chair and baitcaster fly into the lake. i quickly empty my pockets and throw my shades and hat and dive into the water after my rod. i wasnt quick enough. i lost sight of it about 30 feet in front of me. i get out of the water and just started freaking out. my grandpa is going to be so pissed that i lost his expensive baitcaster. so with my spinning rod i tie on a weight and a hook and just start casting to try and snag my line. about the tenth cast i feel some weight and i real it in. its the line. thank god!!! i still could feel the fish on one end and i pulled the rod in and caught this sweet 10 pounder. too bad it wasnt one of the 30 pounders i have seen many times in that lake. but this one made my day. a couple people witnessed the whole event it had to be entertaining. i had 25 people oooing and awwing when i pulled the fish outta the water. i gave the carp to my middle eastern friend i work with and he was extremely happy. i quit fishing at 3pm with 15 rockers and a 10 pound carp.

Nice carp, when fishing for carp makes sure you tie it on something. I always leave my drag lose or sometimes I even let my bail wide open. I chum the water as well. Green lake has tons of carp, there are some monsters that have broke me off. It's a lot harder now days to get them to bite, I may see ya on the water again..

Diving in after a rod and successfully snagging and pulling it away from a 10lb carp...only one word can describe this...EPIC! Nice work man.

That's sweet! I have dove in more than a few times out of boats and haven't had the best of luck overall!!! Glad you were able to get it back!

Nice! Been there, had to swim after a carp-stolen rod when I was a kid myself. At least it was a good day for a swim! You might want to check with WDFW, I believe it is recommended you don't eat the carp our of Greenlake, lots of nasty/toxic stuff they are eating in there. luisdabeast - I haven't checked specifically, but I don't think chumming is legal in Greenlake, check the regs.

Wow, what a great report! I've been hitting Logboom trying to catch a carp and trying out various tackle and bait, so far no luck. Maybe I should move over to Greenlake and bring my swim trunks :-)

I was out fishing in my kayak today in Green lake. In the middle of the lake saw some huge fish swirling at surface. Threw a bunch of lures at them with no success. Would these be carp?

what pound of line and size of tackle were you using? I hear there are a few carp in Lacamas and the Columbia where I live. Wouldn't mind trying if I knew how.
