Got on the water at about 8:30. Water temps are down slightly from the last time I was out. 68-69 degrees. Started out with my crankbait and first fish of the day was a perch. 1 or 2 casts later, I get a solid strike, but it turns out, it's just a big squawfish, lol. About 19-20". 1 hook was in the mouth and other was in the eye. Was a big time bleeder.
Rotated to a spinnerbait and caught a small SMB, ~12".
I see a school of fish directly in front of the boat. Couldn't get a clear view, but I thought they were perch. So I get the trout rod with a little tube jig. Nibble... fish on! Turns out it was a big school of peamouths.
We boated to a point where I had success last time. The wife was using a shallow running crank. She was fishing towards the dock/shore and I was cranking med/deep. I get a whack on the deep crank but didn't stick. I hear "fish FISH" and see the wife caught her first fish of the day. Also 1st crankbait fish for her. A little 12" SMB.
Worked the area without much happening, so we boated to a shallow flat. Nothing on the flat. Got towards the deep drop offs along the bank and I get another SMB, ~13". Biggest SMB of the day. We caught a few more perch but that's about it.
Day started off with some wind and clouds. By afternoon, it was blue skies and sun.
