First time fishing in over 20 years and didn't catch a damn thing. All I saw down In the water were schools of tiny trout.

I am not supprised, this time of year the trout are going to be 25 to 50 feet deep in Badger. With a floating fly line, you are not going to have much luck. Additionally, it was most likley small bass you saw because the state stalks catchables in Badger, normally in March.

If you can get a boat, travel about a 45 degree angle straight from the launch to almost the other side. Anchor up and fish near the bottom in about 30' of water.

Hope this helps.

If there isn't a hatch going on and fish aren't rising, your wasting time. You need to use some sinking line or have a super long leader with a Quick Release indircator. Right now fish are deep. Only coming up to feed in early mornings and late before sunset. I fished lots of lakes in that area and im usually catching fish in 25-30 ft of water right now. I do have to say that it is tough right now and the fish are picky. Best of luck next time!
