Got to the lake around 7:30 this morning. It was overcast and there was a little bit of wind, but not enough to keep me off the water. Went the first hour using the same set up that I have been using for the past few days, 4/0 50/50 dodger, wedding ring or pink hootchie and a little bit of corn and got absolutely nothing, not even a bite. I was a little confused because I have been out the last two days and was getting bites before, but now nothing. Did 3 or so laps of the lake in that first hour searching for anything, but alas, no luck. I then starting playing around with some flashers, dick nites and needlefish at different depths but still nothing. I switched back to the wedding ring and finally started to get a few hits around the area where it starts to get shallow(on the bend of the lake). I don't have a fish finder, so once I began getting hits I started to do large circles/figure 8's over my hot spot(marked for premium members). Finally managed to get 2 decent bows to the boat(13" and 15") but my intention today was to finally bag me a koke, so the search continued. After another hour of hits in my spot I finally got a really clean and bright 12'' koke aboard. After this the bite died a little so I decided to move around a bit. Ended up getting another stock bow(12") but I was intent on getting another koke. After a few more bites, I managed to get a another koke, but it was tiny, maybe 9-10" so I put it back in hopes of catching it when it gets bigger. My day was done after this though because alas, I was using bait and had caught my five(but only kept one). It was an okay day on the lake, only one other boat out there and it seemed as though he was catching. Glad to have finally got my first kokanee. One thing I was disappointed about though... regulations stating that if you are using bait, every fish caught counts toward your limit. I feel like the regs should be accommodating toward people trolling for kokes. Seems to me like the regs were put into place to prevent shore fishers/bait casters from putting back fish that swallowed hook and all. Every fish that I caught was barely lipped and swam away healthy although a little tired. I easily could have continued fishing without anyone knowing, but I always follow the regs no matter how small or insignificant they may seem. Anyway, can't wait to get back out there and get my share of those kokanee!
