Woke up a little later than I had hoped. Got to the lake around 9:30am and the weather was surprisingly cooperative. The wind was somewhat gusty at times, but there wasn't any rain, so I gave it a go. I don't have any riggers, so I was using weight and the 45 degree line rule (using trigonometry to calculate depth). I was using a dodger with a smiley blade/pink hootchie and some corn. I had many bites from the first 10 minutes or so that I was there. I just couldn't get anything to stay on. Started at what I think was about 25', got a bite or two, then moved to about 30' and got many more. I just wish that one of those bad boys would've stayed on there. Slowly but surely the bites began to stop an hour later. The wind also picked up and the rain began to fall so I left around 11:30. I will definitely be back a little earlier next time in hopes of catching a bright/fattie. Anybody have any advice that might help me catch my first kokanee? I was curious if you guys use rod holders and if so, do you let them hook themselves or do you grab the rod and try to set the hook? I was trying both ways and they just wouldn't take it. Maybe I'm just not patient enough. Would have rated it better than a 2 if I had got one to the boat or if the wind had died a little. There were a LOT of people on the dock despite the weather, some looked like they were catching. Saw one guy on his way out from the dock that had his limit with one bow looking 17"+, it was a fattie!
@Salmonbarry, I saw your sweet catch sitting at the launch, I just wish I were there to pick up some free tackle off of it, but it was just the rope and block by the time I got there. Way to keep the lake free of snags though!

thanks gfakkema, you may want to try a double hook set up if you are not as that second hook helps when they go balistic on you. sometimes also that first hit is not a take but a swipe so wait until the rod buries before you grab it. Just my 2 cents worth! good luck and I will be back out Tuesday evening. Also when you get one on take the motor out of gear and reel in REAL slow!

Thanks salmonbarry. I am using a double hook set up on a pink hootchie. I wasn't getting enough action on the hootchie, so I rigged it up with a couple of beads and a smiley blade. After watching it in the water at trolling speeds, I realized that I didn't have enough beads on there and it was causing the hootchie to spin a bit. I was wondering if this spinning action made it more attractive to the kokes, but also harder for them to hook. I'm gonna try to add more beads and if that doesn't work, just forget the smiley blade. I will have to learn to be more patient too. I always get excited when I get that hit and reach for the rod. I think that my quick reaction is pulling the hootchie away and spooking them. PS, were you out on angle today(sunday, june 24)? I saw someone out in a 16' smoker and thought that it might be you(not stocking you, just read one of your reports from angle about your "tincup/tincan" I believe you called it). If you are willing, I would enjoy touching base with you someday out there and find out the secrets of the pro's. Maybe see you on tuesday. Tight lines!

@gfakkema~ I drove by there Sunday on my way home but thought it would be too crowded with the festival and all. Didn't make it out today but will be hitting it tomorrow morning before work and then try again after work. My tin cup is missing it's usual blue top because I am having the canvas resown and repaired so it just has 2 windshields and a steering wheel right now! lol

Also my name is on both sides of it.. if you see me out there let me know and I can show you what I use. I sure wouldn't call me a pro but it took me a few times out and many days of no fish to finally figure it out!
