First time fishing at Sawyer and was hoping to see what the fuss is about. I keep hearing that Lake
Sawyer is the place to go for bass but unfortunately it didnt happen. Got to the lake around 7 and fished the north end under every dock I came across. Using mostly tubes. For the first two hours not a sign of a fish except for a school of fry. I did have one moment of excitement when I hooked into this pretty little thing under dock number 129. If anyone has any hot spots or suggestions as to which end of the lake is better than the other, please respond to this because the lake is beautiful and hope to give it another shot soon.

After spawn Sawyer can be a frustrating lake at times, especially for the largemouth. Like alot of lakes the smallmouth usually move deeper after spawn and are alittle more predictable. For smallies I have had my most consistant luck dragging a Carolina rig with a floating tubebait in watermellonseed, along the outside edge of the weedline, which on that lake is usually at around 16 ft.. Because of the clear water, the weedline break becomes pretty visible. I'm sure other trailer baits would work. I know one other angler that fishes there alot that does well using pepper smoke. After spawn I have never did well at either end of the lake because of the gradual sloping shorelines. I've always fished mid lake on both sides where the shorelines have a quicker drop to them. Hope that helps.

Forgot to add that another appealing aspect to Sawyer is it is one of the few lakes around that has a morning and evening speed limit which gives some quiet time for the anglers. Can't remember what the hours are though. I think they're posted at the boat launch.

Ricky thanks for the tip, I downloaded a map of the lake with depth lines on it so I see where you talk about more drastic depth changes. I will definately give your advice a try.
