Set out to Beaver for a day of lone fishing at around 11am. It was muggy and very overcast and there were only a handful of folks fishing. I had no trouble finding a spot on the shore just a short walk south of the park entrance. Lots of low-hanging trees prevented long casting (a difficulty other anglers have experienced, judging from all the lines and lures hanging from the branches overhead,) but that was fine since I wanted to fish shallow for bass anyway. There were plenty of sunken tree roots, logs and docks around, and as soon as I dropped in a Texas-rigged black/silver senko, I knew I'd found their weak spot. I hooked three largemouth, one of which was a nice 14" that I decided to keep. The best part of the day, though, was when I came across a fish hanging out around a fallen tree a few feet offshore. He would take a quick hit of the senko with every cast, but it took a good half an hour to coax him out and get a good bite so I could set the hook. He turned out to be a baby largemouth and I'm not even sure if he was hungry or just curious, but I released him and was glad for the challenge. Overall a great day at one of my favorite small local lakes.

On my way out I ended up chatting with a guy and his son in the parking lot who had picked up some perch and trout from their raft using powerbait and worms.
