I cant seem to buy a calm day to bass fish this year!! every time I get a chance to go the wind is howling!! This was my 1st time fishing Waghop. I've been wanting to give it a try after seeing all Nate's post, and I love small water bass fishing! This lake is a lot like the small waters I grew up fishing in the southeast. Was primarily flipping jigs from my kayak into heavy cover (which this lake has no shortage of) and the occasional cast of a soft plastic jerk shad, rattle trap, or spinner bait along the deeper edges of the lilies and bushes. I pulled this one 14' FATTY on a jig, then 20 min later had another one grab on only to come unbuttoned. not sure if it didn't have my jig all the way in it's mouth, or just a bad hook set. I did manage this strange orange fish a bit later on. Mayhaps you could ID it for me Nate since you spend more time on this lake than anyone.

All and all this is a neat little lake. I really hope that anyone who has, does, or plans to fish here releases their catch. This has the potential to be a primo bass lake for years and years, but it's a very small body of water with a fair amount of public pressure. If it's a fish you want mounted take it's pic, length, and girth. A replica of that fish will be cheaper, last longer, and you get to let that fish grow and reproduce! Plus, pic was a joke, but this lake isn't known for it's pristine spring fed waters... In fact there are signs warning of toxic algae and what not. Please release your catch!

I think its a Peacock Bass. Must have lost its bluish/green stripes. Didn't know they were up here. Looks like a trophy to me. Hope you measured it for that replica. When you released it did it swim off or just float there?

Amen on releasing the bass in such a small lake. Some real pigs have been caught there, and I'm sure many of them caught were caught and released before by others. I love bass filets as well as the next guy, but I have a standing rule....If you fish in my boat you release the bass you catch. I"ll weigh it, take of picture of it, but then it goes back in the water. If folks want fish to eat, there are perch, bluegill, and other warm water species whose population needs to be thinned, and are great table fare. Back in the 70's and before we regularly caught 5, 6, 7, 8 lb bass from even the smallest of our lakes. And, myself included, we took them home. Back then there wasn't even a limit on bass. And I had pictures of stringers of big bass I'd be ashamed to show now. No, catch and release for bass is a good thing. Okay, I'll get off my pulpit now.

Nice catch...I think I HOOKED that one before....the orange one that is....
Yeah, great cover and lots of potential for big bass. Best opportunity is in a boat or yak for sure.

Damnedest thing. I took his measurements and pic, but cant find a taxidermist with the right mold to recreate this fish...

It rivals the mutt with extra fins you pulled out of here last year c17hydro.

look a few post deep on this page:

Hey nate, I think he was making a joke about your yellow fish. Ya know, floating because its made of plastic......At least I hope he was. You deserve nothing but accolades for your catch and release point of view. Especially for that little lake.

Nate, that was in no way a stab at you. The 3 eyed fish was because of the water quality of the lake, and the C&R spiel was to try and encourage it. I don't know you from anyone else aside from what you post on here, as you don't know me. If I launch a personal attack at you it won't be so subtle.

Crank bait's and jig's that's your best bet.
try root beer color crank bait and a dark color jig.

What's up brother! I see Nate is a postin' bass again! Great thing about him catching and releasing those bass is we get to see how the bass are growing there since he catches so many of the same fish in the exact same place. I wonder sometimes from reading his posts that maybe somehow he has been eating a few fish....just by READING his posts...hehehehe! By four now....bak to lunching airplains!!!!
