I am not trying to be funny or a jerk but does riffe have Kokanee or Silvers? I thought it was Silvers but I have seen others put Kokanee also.

Were you fishing the mossyrock end of the lake? We have been getting fish there also.

Yeah, it's really hard to punch in "other " "or salmon," easier to just put down the wrong fish. Bob R

Many years ago people were calling the Kokanee ( silvers ) my father & I have been fishing Riffe Lake for 20 + years for kokamee. My dad calls the silvers and I correct him to kokanee.

Kokaholic your dad is right though. Riffe has land locked coho which are silvers. People still call what they catch in American Lake silvers too but in fact they are Kokanee. Does anyone know a sure way to tell a Kokanee from a Silver?

Nice I need to head that way and fish the lake thanks for the report. I would have to weigh in and say that your all right. The word Kokanee is commonly used to define landlocked salmon.

Land locked Coho are thinner through the belly and there backs are all covered with spots. The fish in Riffe lake are land locked coho or silvers, not Kokanee.

Kokanee is NOT used to describe landlocked salmon, It is specific to SOCKEYE.Why is it that we need to keep telling people this fact? The old timers would call all landlocked salmon "silver trout"The book, WA. state fishing guide,( a Stan Jones publication), calls them silver trout, but this book is almost 40 years old! Once again, Coho in Riffe, both coho and kokanee are in Merwin. Anyone serious about Kokanee should go on Kokanee forum, you can learn a lot from that site. Bob R

Thank you for the report. I am glad that the landlock coho are still biting good. Some people don't know the difference between kokanee and silvers. With them starting out being called silver trout probably still has its effects. The News Tribune fishing report on American even reported Mike@Bills caught his limit of silvers. :-) I emailed them to tell them that they were kokanee not silvers. Technically its Land locked Sockeye, Kokanee has also been used to describe any land locked salmon. Its funny how many come out of the wood work to try to show how smart they are next time I call the the catfish I catch bullheads and not channel see how many post about it.

If you think it's funny to show how wrong you are go ahead and post wrongly identified fish. There are more then enough educated fishermen that will correct you, but if mudding the water turns you on go for it, but as fishermen we all know a troller when we see one. Bob R P.S. a channel cat a bullhead? Jeez, how wrong is that? Will you call a perch a crappie next? BobR.

By the way"Naferious", you are not only bad at fish identification, you are a bad speller. It's NEFARIOUS, not naferious. See what not paying attention to details does for you? Bob R
