A sunny day and chores to do, I think not! Some sodas and snacks packed we head off for an adventure. Not sure where we were headed but we did have fishing poles in the truck so our first stop was Depression Lake, the seep lake just below Baker Lake. We fished for about an hour and caught 4 fish and missed a few other hits. The fish were caught with the standard power bait setup, a small sliding sinker, 3’ of 2# test leader and a small treble hook. Chartreuse rainbow, white/green and purple floating dough baits did the trick. The hooked fish were released alive and well and we had a fun time with the fishing portion of our adventure.
Next stop was the interpretive hike at the Trail of the Centennials. The trail is in excellent condition and the old growth forest is amazing, some of the trees are 680 years old. I am always awestruck when you enter a forest and all the sound of civilization are replaced by the sounds of the forest, it is so peaceful.
Our next stop was the fish trap at the PSE facility in Concrete. They were doing maintenance so there was nothing to see. From there we headed to Cascade Burger for yet another tasty meal and I have to say the blue cheese burger is downright outstanding. From Cascade Burger we drove down the South Skagit Highway to Loretta Creek for a little rock hounding. About one halfway between Concrete and Loretta Creek we saw a huge bull elk just off the side of the road, a pretty spectacular sight. We spent an hour or so looking for rocks at Loretta Creek and found a large petrified wood specimen and some very nice leaf casts/fossils. Our day of adventure was just that, an adventure and we had a great time.
