After reading the past reviews of Lake Newman, I was not sure what to expect. After the fog lifted this morning, I cruised up to the northeast section looking for submerged islands. I wasn't able to find them. Does anybody know where they are in relation to the water-skiing buoys? I pounded the shoreline for an hour with various lures with zero strikes. After looking at the topo map provided by this site, I anchored in 22 feet of water off a point ( a local told me this was the Frog Rock). Using a Senko worm and 14 pound line, I caught 3 smallmouth bass ranging from 2-3 pounds. I used a very slow presentation. All the fish were hooked almost under the boat. After two hours at this spot, I moved across the lake to another point and again in 22 feet and hooked another smallmouth. All fish were released although one had a hook left in since it had swallowed the Senko worm. I spoke to another bass fisherman who had no strikes during his morning fishing. A trout fisherman trolling reported no luck as well. Only about 8 boats fishing the lake today.
