Got to the CL with my oldest son and our canoe around 7:30AM. We started out with live worms and powerbait eggs - lots of bites, but no takers as we kept losing our bait. We switched over to trolling with wedding rings, spinners, and spoons. Lot's of trout feeding and jumping through the surface - my son loved it and called out each time he saw/heard a splash. It took us about 30mins to get to the proper water depth, trolling speed, and spinner/spoons (we got consistent action with the finger nail size spinner/spoons about 3 feet below the water surface). Loads of fun for the next hour and half as we had trout on nearly each pass of our lazy S trolling pattern. My son got good practice with different spoons, trolling, and using a hand net to land the trout. Each time we got that tick-tick sign on the end of our poles, my son was excited and he took the pole to reel it towards our canoe. We had bites about every 15mins. At the end of it we lost 4 trout reeling in towards our canoe, and we kept 3 trout for dinner tomorrow.

By mid-morning there was a good number of other rafts, canoes, and a couple floaters on the lake ... enjoying opening weekend like we were. Great morning to kick-off the fishing season at CL. Surprisingly, for opening weekend, the dock was not as crowded as I had expected. We called it a day for fishing on our canoe when the rest of our family met us at the lake about 11AM ... hard to fish on a canoe with a 2.5 year old who loves to continously throw a cast with his Diego kiddy pole. We'll be back for more fishing.

It's a fun lil lake, usually not too much pressure. The parking is arranged poorly but, can't have everything! LOL

I was on the deck since 6am that day. The fishing was pretty slow the whole morning. Almost nobody caught trout. No until 10am, the fish become actively. A daddy with 3 or 4 kids caught their limit with 2 hours. I also landed 4 between 11am to 12pm.
