Trolled Rattlesnake from 7am-10am. Weather was cloudy, dry, 35 degrees and very windy. Several pontoon boats put in and quickly left due to the wind. Water was green with 4-5 feet visibility. We began trolling small dodgers with various Wedding Ring, Needlefish, or Roostertail trailers. No fish for first hour, then found the right combination. A 50/50 dodger with a Green Weddingring. We fished fairly shallow, only 5-8' deep working clockwise down the center of the lake and up the West side. Hooked several fish, landed five. Three were 10-12", two 14-16". All very healthy.

14"-16" seems pretty respectable for Rattlesnake. I have not caught anything larger than the foot long variety in 2 or 3 trip.

That's why I gave the day a 4 instead of a 3. I have pulled a few that size out in the past but not too often. Since it is a catch and release lake now, those little guys are having more opportunity to grow, which is great.

we can hope that the power baiters got the message on this lake. Is there a sign posted at the launch area? That would be helpful. Thanks for the reminded, I should head over and give it a shot.

BTW, I caught my biggest Rattlesnake rainbow at that hotspot location you marked - deep on a sinking line, green leach.

I caught a lot of sunken trees or the cut stumps with my sinking line.........Ha! There are plenty of that submerged variety to snag on. At least on the side of the lake that the popular hiking spot, Rattlesnake peak resides. Sometimes you get your fly back with a chunk of bark on it, sometimes the fly does not come back.
