I started off the day fishing at Bitter Lake around 2 pm or so. I put my boat in and circled the entire lake pitching Jigs and Swimbaits. I then circled the entire lake again throwing a KVD 1.5 and Suspending Jerkbaits as well as a drop shot. Got skunked.
So then I decided to head to Green Lake to try to catch some of the recently planted Rainbow Trout. I started off fishing the north end and working up and down the bank. I talked to a bunch of people and surprisingly everyone I talked to hadn't caught anything all day. This should have been my first clue to pick up and leave for the south end. However I was stubborn and fished the north end up and down. I was tossing an inline spinner for the most part as well as an 1/8th oz hair jig. I had one solid bite on the hair jig but no hook up. After a couple hours I decided to head to the south end.
I got to the south end and saw two people fly fishing from float tubes and several people taking up a dock to themself. I began casting and on my second cast I landed a small rainbow that was probably about 10" or so. Shortly after a little kid came up and stood next to me and was chatting away. About 15 minutes later I hook and land another one. Once I pull it out of the water, the kid lets out an enthusiast "OHHHH!!!". The excitement that comes from a young child when they see a fish caught is priceless! This trout was about the same size.
I continued fishing for about 15 more minutes and saw 2 other rainbows being caught. Once the sun set, the trout stopped surfacing and the bite completely shut down.
When I left, I quickly wished that I left the north end right away and fished the south end for a couple of hours instead. I probably would have caught a lot more fish and some bigger ones. Oh well.
I'm just happy that I finally got to break in my Powell Diesel Glass Crankbait rod with it's first 2 catches. I was using my Shimano Curado 51E spooled with 10 lb Berkley Big Game. Even with 10 lb mono I was whipping out a 1/4 oz inline spinner pretty far.
I didn't take any photos but I do have video of the two fishing being caught :)
Enjoy!
