I haven't been fishin for a couple weeks because the rivers have been too high. So, I figured I would have a better chance getting a smallie than large mouth. The only problem is North tapps parks is closed and the south end is too shallow. I looked at the topo maps and saw deeper water kind of down south, But with only an eletric motor I figuerd it was out of range. Being the fool I am, I charged my battery and my spare and headed out. I ran for about an hour looking for deep water. I could only find one small hole about 16ft deep. I fished there for about a half hour but I didn't get anything. It took me 35 minutes to get back to the boat launch and I was still about a half mile short of any deep water. That is the results I was expecting for the trip but at least I got to make a few casts.
I also wanted to try to experiment with "float and fly." I have read about it on line. I already have long poles for steel heading and the floats also. I was too lazy to tie up some jigs though, so I just used small soft plastics. With a bobber it is a lot easier to fish slow than with typical bass gear.
I think I will go to American lake next.

at least you gave it a shot man! that's more than a lot of people can say. good luck at american! i've fished that lake from someone else's boat a couple times and we managed with trolling motors only. at least if you go this time of year there won't be any pleasure boaters out there :)

Yep, North Park closed Sept. 30th and doesn't open again till April 1st. And as you found out it is a long run to any deep water from the other launch. And deep water, no doubt, is where the smallmouth will be right now. I bassed American Lake about a week ago. Found no fish shallower than 30 ft. I stayed in the 30 to 40 ft range where I saw large schools of perch. Figured the smallies would be around the same depth. Drug a dropshot rig and also a football head with a twin tailed grub. Caught only one dink smallie, and close to 20 perch, with lots of other bites, which were probably perch also. Thanks for the report.
