I fished Egg Lake on San Juan Island from about 8am to 11am today
with an overcast sky and light wind on the water. At the suggestion
of a friend, I fished chironomids: chromies and bronzies, about 24"-
36" below a strike indicator. I paddled my pontoon boat out to submerged weed beds and the fishing was hot! I landed two rainbows, one a solid 18" and the other about 15". I lost 5 others, including one that snapped my 4lb leader (maybe a bad knot). The water is getting noticeably warm, so the bass in this lake should be turning on soon, while the trout may soon move into the cool depths until fall.
Right now, though, they are biting!
