Been fishing Badger for Smallmouth the past couple weeks with good success for smaller fish. Fished after work with the family, mostly dropshotting tubes off rocks and dropoffs. Boated about a dozen smallies and a few largies, with only 3-4 of decent size - the rest were pretty small, but still fun fishing with the kids since action was constant.
We could have kept catching like this, but the wife was complaining that she was cold and wanted to go to the south end where there was still a sliver of sunshine. The south end is pretty weedy, water was glassy, so I decided to tie on a Hula Popper. Second cast, popper hits the water a foot from some tall grass. I let it sit for about 3 seconds and gave it a little blip. The largie in the picture clobbered the popper with a huge splash, hook set, and the fight was on. I was glad my drag was set tight because I couldn't afford to let her get into the weeds. A little bit of back and forth action and my son had her in the net. A real nice way to end the day and week!
