Fished the upper end of the lake, starting around 7:00 AM. Worked the middle up and down at 40 and 45 ft on the down riggers. Chrome 0 dodger with a small piece of cured prawn on a red hook, 12 inches back. Nothing happening so we started a ziz zag pattern in 165 ft of water, lowering the gear to 50 and 55 ft. Caught our first hook nose around 8:00 AM, a touch over 7 lbs and just starting to turn pink. For the next couple hours we had fish on every 20 minutes or so, landing 2 more smaller fish. After 10:30 things got real quiet for an hour or so, then a fiesty little fella hammered my offering and ran for the damn at the far end of the lake. Got him stopped and turned but still took 15 minutes to get a look at him. Another 5 minutes and he was in the boat. Just under 5 lbs, with good color (still silver) and firm.
About 12 boats on the water, only seen one other fish landed and the survey guy at the damn said not many fish being reported.
This will be the last trip up for us this season, but it was a great day. 5 in the boat, 5 up to the boat for a look, several bumps, and two mild sunburned old fellers.
