A BAKER's DOZEN
Had another awesome day at Baker Lake and ended up going home with 13 gorgeous sockeye!. Not very many boats on the water and most were not doing well. Standard for the day was one or two fish per boat. It was not a typlical day for 2011 Baker Lake Sockeye. Bite didn't really turn on till about 6:30am and didn't peak until around 10am. We boated our 13th fish at 11:30am and then the bite really turned off. Had 6 of us in the boat. 4 rods on DR;s, 1 rod on 3oz of lead, and one flat lining. Caught our first two on the 3oz lead rod at about 60 ft of line out. The DR rods caught all of the remaining fish from 45 to 65ft deep.
The sky was overcast and the sun did not really show up until after 11am. I think that had a lot to do with the later and longer bite period. Used slight variations of the smile blades and beads with and without mini squid all trailing about 10" behind a 0 fish scale dodger.
Only one or two doubles today. Guys, there are still plenty
of fish and they are still biters. You just need to find the schools and make sure you get to the right depth. H
